That speaks of the power to arrange wind turbines better.

What about those better wind turbine designs?

Here again:

http://www.alternative-energy-news.info/wind-turbine-concept-jet-engines/

The traditional prop acts as an obstruction to airflow, forcing air around it instead of through it. To compensate for this, props are built at huge sizes, with blades around 150 feet long. Their size makes them fragile, requiring low rotational speed, and large gearboxes. FloDesign’s wind turbine extracts 3-4 times as much energy from the wind, allowing much smaller and faster blades. Diffusers provide greater efficiency at the expense of weight and length, and they are prone to separation of flow and losses. FloDesign’s mixer duct is less effected by off-axis flow, or turbulence, and uses FloDesign’s mixer ejector uses axial vorticity.

It’s like an Archimedes screw for air. When the two flows meet from different angles, they create a rapid mixing vortex. FloDesign’s turbine can automatically align to the wind direction like a kite string, and does not need motorized alignment. Traditional blades are enormous, and require special infrastructure to manufacture and transport. The FloDesign turbine can be disassembled to fit in one truck. FloDesign’s smaller robust rotor spins effectively at lower winds, but can also sustain higher winds in which other turbines would stall or break.

Traditional turbines require wide spacing, while FloDesign’s turbines can be placed closer together, optimizing land. While traditional turbines use fragile cantilevered beams, FloDesign’s shorter, stronger rotor benefits from a hoop. Traditional turbines require placement away from people and buildings. FloDesign turbines are inherently safer, adopting methods from the engineering of jet engines.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/audi-establishes-e-tron-electric-car-division.html

In order to truly focus on high-performance – and high-dollar – electric vehicles, Audi has established a new “e-tron” division to develop the company’s EV technology. Like BMW’s M or Mercedes-Benz’ AMG, Audi’s e-tron division will be tasked with producing a range of up-scale performance cars, albeit exclusively with electric drivetrains.

Economies of scale:

How much would you lower your standard prices if I could guarantee you 100 customers? Or how about 1,000? The premise behind Groupon is to offer customers "collective buying power" - which essentially means that you can offer a great deal and it will only kick in if a set number of consumers take you up on it.

Can Honda Bring Corporate-Style Jet Travel to the Masses?
Private jet travel is convenient, luxurious and, of course, very expensive. The HondaJet represents an effort at changing that, by using technology and design to bring costs down and allow private-jet travel at costs that approach commercial ticket prices

Human-flesh search engines — renrou sousuo yinqing — have become a Chinese phenomenon: they are a form of online vigilante justice in which Internet users hunt down and punish people who have attracted their wrath. The goal is to get the targets of a search fired from their jobs, shamed in front of their neighbors, run out of town. It’s crowd-sourced detective work, pursued online — with offline results.

Take a huge oceanic catamaran, stick a hydroelectric turbine underneath it, and hitch it to a 6.5 million-square-foot parafoil flying nearly a mile in the air. That’s a Korean research team’s new proposal for generating gigawatts of clean energy.

As the parafoil pulls the boat, seawater would be forced through the turbine, which generates electricity. The 800 megawatts of electricity produced would separate seawater into hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis, and the hydrogen would then be stored on-board the ships.

By changing the amplitude of the oscillating wave, the researchers found that they could further improve charging time by lowering the energy barrier and speeding up intercalation. Their simulations showed that the dependence of the intercalation time on the amplitude is exponential, meaning that a small increase in amplitude leads to a large increase the intercalation speed, which offers the potential for very fast charging times.

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn18666-algaes-solar-electrons-hijacked-to-steal-power.html

When Ryu and colleagues shone a halogen lamp on their alga, those electrons were siphoned off by the electrode instead. Their circuit registered a current of 1.2 picoamps – which is equivalent to a yield of 0.6 milliamps per square centimetre. By increasing the light intensity that value rises to a maximum of 6 milliamps per square centimetre, Ryu says.

By contrast, some silicon solar cells have a current density of 35 milliamps per square centimetre. Despite that, Ryu thinks his algae could still find a job in power generation. "The solar cell efficiency is also related to the wavelength of light," he says. "We believe our bio-solar system may provide higher efficiency than the silicon-based solar cells at particular wavelengths." Chlorophyll, for instance, has evolved to absorb blue and red light well, but doesn't absorb much green light, hence its colour.

A Canadian company called Pond Biofuels is capturing CO2 emissions from a cement plant in algae — algae the company ultimately plans on using to make biofuel.
