Sometimes, it's just a matter of refocusing to see the documents, the statements, the acts for what they are. Such is the case with the torture memos that continue to emerge. Never has an administration – and hardly has a torturing regime anywhere – had so many of its secret documents aired while it was still in the act. Seldom has a ruling group made such an open case for its own crimes.

We're talking, of course, about the most secretive administration in American history – so secretive, in fact, that Congressional representatives considering classified portions of an intelligence bill, have to go to "a secret, secure room in the Capitol, turn in their Blackberrys and cellphones, and read the document without help from any staff members." Such briefings are given to Congressional representatives, but under ground rules in which "participants are prohibited from future discussions of the information – even if it is subsequently revealed in the media…" So representatives who are briefed are also effectively prohibited from discussing what they have learned in Congress.

A clean computer hard drive can be placed on the shelf as a back up. The infected hard drive can be wiped clean with a reformat. The computer can be started with the hard drive on the shelf and the old hard drive (infected but reformated) can be used to make a new copy for the shelf (a third hard drive can also be used just in case the reformat does not completely clean the back up).

The computer can then be hooked back up to the network.

If there is no 'back-up' on the shelf, then, a blank hard drive must have the operating system loaded from scratch.

The cost of down time for all the computers suffering from a 'virus' includes all the data lost (not backed up) and this 'cost' can be financial data.

Example:

Did you pay your bill on time?

How much money is in your savings account?

The term 'wipe clean' can be meaningless or meaningful. Exactly

The filed documents allege that during his tenure, the former defense secretary "ordered and authorized" torture of detainees at both the American-run Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and the US military's detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The head of one of the groups responsible for bringing the charges, the US-based Center for Constitutional Rights, told RAW STORY today by phone that the suit was a long time coming.

"We've been working on cornering Rumsfeld and getting him indicted somewhere going on three years now," said the Center's president, Michael Ratner. "Four days ago, we got confidential information he was going to be in France."

Joined by activists, attorneys for the human rights groups caught up with Rumsfeld on his way to a breakfast meeting. "He was walking down the street with just one person," said Ratner.

"Around 20 campaigners gave Rumsfeld a rowdy welcome...yelling 'murderer,' waving a banner and trying to push into the building," reports AFP.

Ratner, who wasn't personally at the scene, says his sources told him that the former defense secretary made some pre-scheduled remarks at the meeting before ducking through a door leading to the US Embassy.

According to Ratner, France has a legal responsibility under international law to prosecute Rumsfeld for torture abuses.

"If a torturer comes into your territory," he said, "there's an obligation to either prosecute the person or return him to a place where he will be prosecuted."

The rights groups notably cite three memorandums signed by the defense secretary between October 2002 and April 2003 "legimitizing the use of torture" including the "hooding" of detainees, sleep deprivation and the use of dogs.

Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973, the president must consult Congress within 60 days of engaging the U.S. in armed hostilities. If members do not authorize his action, he is required, by law, to remove U.S. forces from action.

The new Jones-Delahunt resolution would specifically prohibit the president from entering into future hostilities without congressional action except to specifically "repel and retaliate for an attack on the United States, repel an attack on U.S. troops, or protect and evacuate U.S. citizens."

Lovelock does have some suggestions on how to improve the situation. He suggests cutting greenhouse gas emissions anyway, as they may slow the pace of global warming. He also advocates saving natural forests. He still believes, however, that humans will have to adapt to the inevitable changes global warming will bring.

Third Attack Strategy

The third and most dangerous strategy used by the Bush administration is to sanction a covert mission that would create the necessary political environment for a war against Iran.
