CARACAS - PRESIDENT Hugo Chavez on Sunday bridled at US plans to use military bases in Colombia, asserting that Venezuela was the top US target in the region and that Venezuelans should prepare for war.

Speaking in his weekly live radio and television broadcast, Chavez also chided US President Barack Obama for accusing leftist Latin leaders of 'hypocrisy' for demanding that Washington intervene more forcefully to reinstate Honduras' ousted President Manuel Zelaya.

Mr Obama 'is lost in the clouds. I think he is entering a terrible labyrinth', Mr Chavez said. 'Obama doesn't understand. He needs to study a bit more. He is a young man, full of good intentions.'

'Obama, we are not asking you to intervene in Honduras. To the contrary, we are asking that the empire remove its hand from Honduras and that the empire remove its claws from Latin America,' he said.

United States President Barack Obama - now running three wars (Iraq and the AfPak combo) - demanded that Iran (which is not at war with anybody) demonstrate "its peaceful intentions or be held accountable to international standards and international law".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu announced to the UN, "the greatest threat facing the world today is the marriage between religious fundamentalism and the weapons of mass destruction". Impervious to irony, Netanyahu obviously forgot that Iran - like Iraq in 2003 - has no weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Israel not only has WMDs, but still refuses to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) or allow its weapons to be inspected, as Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan rushed to clarify. As for religious fundamentalism, Zionism is more than a match to Iran's Shi'itism.

As if this was not hysteria enough, leaks in Britain revealed that the head of M-I6 Sir John Scarlett and the head of Mossad Meir Dagan may have established that Saudi Arabia is ready to allow Israel to bomb Iran. The House of Saud remained mute. But not the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) - which de facto controls Iran's missile program. They successfully tested long-range Shahab-3 and Sajjil solid-fuel missiles with a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers. Ergo, even more hysteria.

General Hoseyn Salami, commander of IRGC's air force, told the IRINN TV network that Iran had a firm "no first strike" policy in terms of a missile war with Israel, and defended the tests as linked to the approaching anniversary of the 1980 Iraqi attack on Iran - the beginning of a horrible eight-year war that killed at least 250,000 Iranians. (The US, by the way, supported in that war a character who later personified the "new Hitler", Saddam Hussein.)

Now compare all this to the Western reaction to what's happening this Thursday in Beijing on China's National Day parade for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China; an array of two types of surface-to-surface conventional missiles, a new land-based cruise missile, surface-to-surface intermediate and long-range missiles that could carry nuclear warheads, and nuclear intercontinental missiles will all be shown off in an asphalt catwalk. Not a peep from the West. It's as if this was part of Beijing Fashion Week.

One barrel of oil contains a measurable amount of power and therefore a measurable amount of purchasing power and as such oil has become a global accurate currency.

When the dollar is no longer chosen as the currency used in oil trading the purchasing power of the dollar will no longer have that measurable amount of power that is provided by oil power.

What happens next?

Iran announced late last month that its foreign currency reserves would henceforth be held in euros rather than dollars. Bankers remember, of course, what happened to the last Middle East oil producer to sell its oil in euros rather than dollars. A few months after Saddam Hussein trumpeted his decision, the Americans and British invaded Iraq.

In the most profound financial change in recent Middle East history, Gulf Arabs are planning – along with China, Russia, Japan and France – to end dollar dealings for oil, moving instead to a basket of currencies including the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan, the euro, gold and a new, unified currency planned for nations in the Gulf Co-operation Council, including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Qatar.

Secret meetings have already been held by finance ministers and central bank governors in Russia, China, Japan and Brazil to work on the scheme, which will mean that oil will no longer be priced in dollars.

To the degree that the 21cs pursue nationalist politics (and we should note that nationalization means expropriatism and public ownership) they are a pale reflection of the measures taken between the 1930’s – mid 1970’s

One of the key factors reversing past leftist waves in Latin America was the economic power and interventionary capacity of the US.

There is strong evidence that US power has suffered a relative decline on both counts. The US is no longer a creditor country; it is no longer the leading trading partner with Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina and is losing ground in the rest of Latin America, except for Mexico.

Britain's Independent newspaper reported last Tuesday that Russian officials had held "secret meetings" with Arab states, China and France on ending the use of the U.S. dollar in international oil trade.

The countries are reportedly seeking to switch from the dollar to a basket of currencies including the euro, Japanese yen, Chinese yuan, gold, and a new unified currency of leading Arab oil producing countries.

The Independent said the meetings have been confirmed by Chinese and Arab banking sources.

http://www.universetoday.com/2009/11/09/surprise-unknown-asteroid-buzzed-earth/

A previously undiscovered asteroid came within 14,000 km of Earth last week, and astronomers noticed it only 15 hours before closest approach. On Nov. 6 at around 16:30 EST a 7 meter asteroid, now called 2009 VA, came only about 2 Earth radii from impacting our home planet
. This is the third-closest known non-impacting Earth approach on record for a cataloged asteroid.

Only thirteen months ago, another asteroid, 2008 TC3 was discovered under similar circumstances, but that one was found to be on a trajectory headed for the Earth, with impact only about 11 hours away. It impacted in a remote area of Africa; no one was injured and fragments have since been recovered for study.

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/11/barack-obama-hu-jintao-usa-china-electric-car-initiative.php

But this initiative isn't very ambitious (so far - let's hope it gets expanded). This won't stop private companies from forging ahead on their own, but it would certainly be good if governments had bigger goals.

What?

Is that another case of "destroy the competition"?

Here is a company that is "forging ahead on thier own":

http://www.teslamotors.com/

Jay Leno has an electric car:

This just in:

Tesla would mark the first public offering from a U.S. automaker since Henry Ford's Ford Motor Co debuted its shares in 1956. The IPO represents a landmark in the resurgence of electric car technology that most carmakers had dismissed as impractical until recently.

The company's chairman Elon Musk said early last year that an IPO was a possibility in either late 2008 or 2009.

But the financial market turmoil following the collapse of Lehman Bros. in the latter half of 2008 virtually shut down the IPO market. The appetite for IPOs has picked up since mid-September this year with a robust pace of new filings.

Tesla's IPO would follow the successful debut of lithium-ion battery maker A123 Systems, whose shares rallied 50 percent on their first day of trading on Sept 25.

Analysts have said that the success of A123, the first green technology IPO this year, would encourage more venture capital-backed green companies to go public.

Tesla will compete with established automakers like Ford, General Motors and Nissan Motor Co, all of which are racing to launch electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Tesla, by contrast, is a small player with a high-end market and limited production.

Introduction

In Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, I have analyzed US and NATO geopolitical strategy since the fall of the Soviet Union, in expanding the American empire and preventing the rise of new powers, containing Russia and China. This Part examines the implications of this strategy in recent years; following the emergence of a New Cold War, as well as analyzing the war in Georgia, the attempts and methods of regime change in Iran, the coup in Honduras, the expansion of the Afghan-Pakistan war theatre, and spread of conflict in Central Africa. These processes of a New Cold War and major regional wars and conflicts take the world closer to a New World War. Peace can only be possible if the tools and engines of empires are dismantled.

OUTLOOK FOR 2010
German Economy on Brink of Radical Restructuring
The German economy coped astonishingly well with the global crisis in 2009. But in 2010 it will need to lay the foundations for a radical restructuring if it wants to cope with chronic overcapacity in its aging industries and fend off powerful new competitors from China and India. Does the country need a new business model? SPIEGEL provides an outlook for 2010.

A year after Israel's war on Gaza, the territory is still struggling to rebuild.

In the weeks after the offensive, politicians from around the world visited the Strip and made promises to help.

But it appears many of those pledges have not been delivered.

Al Jazeera's Todd Baer caught up with two US Democratic congressmen whose efforts to lift the Israeli blockade on Gaza are being met with stiff resistance.

In the last post an interviewer asked a question where the interviewer used a label (left) and asked the person being interviewed (Chomsky) a question concerning that label (the left).

Chomsky saw through the thinly veiled attempt to discredit the left and thereby make the right more appealing - better.

See how that works?

Suppose Chomsky didn't sweep the political hack job under the rug and instead of answering the question by qualifying the answer with a specific rejection of the label, what would have happened if Chomsky illuminated the attempted political game?

Interviewer:

"So is it a failure of the left then in the United States that war is not avoided?"

Interviewed:

"That depends upon what you mean by the left. If your version of the left and my version of the left are two different things, then what is the purpose of confusing the two?

Interviewer:

"What do you mean?"

Interviewed:

"If the left you have in view is a group of organized criminals who use law as a cloak so as to perpetuate their crimes, the label you use actually hides their crimes behind some nebulous legitimacy..."

Interviewer (cutting in):

I don't mean that...

Interviewed (cutting in):

"Really; then tell me exactly what you mean, give me some names, places, actions, motivations, etc., and not simply the speeches that claim to communicate motive; offer me the true reasons behind the actions."

Interviewer:

"That is going a little to far into specific details, I just meant the group of people who are democrats, not republicans - that left."

Interviewed:

"That is my point, then, so I'll go on with my point, if you don't mind. Is this a sound bite?"

Interviewer:

"No, no, go ahead with your point - please."

Interviewed:

"Thanks. The point is to point out how evil and only evil is served by this confusion of labels. If you ask a question about the left and that left is some ambiguous phantom, in your own mind, while I can clearly measure it as legal criminals who commit legal crimes upon their helpless, ignorant, and power-less innocent victims, and if your "left" (legal criminals) is confused with the left I intend to communicate, where my version of left is nothing more or less than people who don't plan on and then execute crimes upon innocent people, if now the two opposites are confused as being one and the same thing, both are "The Left" (when in reality there are two separate and opposing groups), what happens?"

Interviewer:

"What do you mean by 'what happens?'?"

Interviewed:

"You don't even know, and that is part of my point. What happens is that the good group (the left that doesn't plan on and then follow through with the plan to willfully and pre-meditatively injure innocent victims) is in a lose/lose situation. Do you see this now?"

Interviewer:

"Please just go on."

Interviewed:

"I can see your reluctance to take responsibility, to won this, this parroting of the political falsehoods that so well serve the legal criminals. Be that as it may, I can go on."

Interviewer:

"Lose/lose situation..."

Interviewed:

"Exactly; in a measurable way: the good people are now suspected of failure, of wrong doing, of being like the left that you have falsely associated with these good people. That is a negative for the good people, they lose power, they lose confidence, they lose momentum, they suffer libel, bad press, negative reinforcement occurs. The good people are grouped in the same group as the bad people and the mud sticks to them."

Interviewer:

"That may be true..."

Interviewed:

"But that is half the story, one side, and this has at least four sides, as such:

1a. Good people lose by gaining negative exposure by false association with bad people

1b. Good people lose by failing to promote positive exposure; in direct proportion to the opportunity having been stolen by false exposure.

2a. Bad people win by diluting their evil, having a false association with good people makes bad people look better, the good thoughts and good deeds of the good people are falsely attributed to the bad people.

2b. Bad people win by deflecting and avoiding the negative exposure by clogging up the air time, the bandwidth, with falsehood, confusion, misdirection, behavioral modification, response conditioning.

Interviewer:

"Isn't that somewhat convoluted?"

Interviewed:

"That is the point, yes, and who does it serve, and therefore who is most likely behind the process - if not the beneficiaries?"

Interviewer:

"Are you suggesting that I have something to gain by asking you a question concerning the left, and their failure to avoid wars?"

Interviewed:

"Did someone make you do it? Are you acting against your will, or your knowledge?"

Interviewer:

"I just wanted an answer to the question asked."

Interviewed:

"And you don't like the answer, it is too convoluted, where the confusion between a criminal left and a non-criminal left just so happens, perhaps "coincidentally", to benefit the criminals and injures, and removes power from, the innocent victims. Is that all just a coincidence to you, as you take your part in it?"

Interviewer:

"I just asked a question."

Interviewed:

"What exactly to you mean when you define this thing that you call the "left"? If...

Interviewer:

"Everyone knows..."

Interviewed:

"Please let me finish, although your interruption speaks for itself."

Interviewer:

"Go on."

Interviewed:

"If your answer doesn't accurately discriminate the precise difference between people who organize and pool, or collect, their power in the willful process of injuring innocent people and those who do no such thing, then your answer, your "left", doesn't accomplish something that is specifically important in the process of avoiding crime, or war when war is a crime, so who, who exactly, is responsible for not avoiding criminal wars - wars for profit - and what exactly is the extent of their failure, in a measurable way?"
