Hutton will announce at an energy conference in Berlin tomorrow that he wants to see this target raised to 33GW-worth of wind turbines installed in the seas around Britain by 2020. If energy consumption remains stable this would mean wind power could supply the electricity needs of every home in Britain.

The residential prototype calls for eco-friendly materials, photovoltaics on the pitched roof, and energy-saving devices and appliances.  The home will be sufficiently roomy at a decent 1,400 sf big, too.

The architects designed the home to be flexible to site demands to maximize potential environmental benefits from proper solar orientation.  The first floor, which comprises most of the community/gathering areas, has lots of glass and blurs the boundary between indoors and out.  The second floor, which will have more of the private rooms and spaces, is made entirely of wood.

The Chevrolet Volt, GM's electric plug-in vehicle, will be the first vehicle designed in the new studio. The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in electric vehicle that will run up to 40 miles without ever using a drop of gasoline -- which according to government data, would be enough to handle approximately two-thirds of daily commutes for American drivers. The first vehicle in GM's "E-Flex" family, the Volt will be powered by an electric motor, which draws its energy from on-board batteries. The batteries, in turn, will be re-charged by a small internal combustion engine that will run on gas, diesel or ethanol. When not in use, the batteries will be re-charged by simply plugging the Volt into an electric outlet.

Currently, Britain's offshore wind farm system produces around 2 gigawatts, enough to power roughly 1.5m homes; the government hopes to meet the EU's target of producing 20% of energy by renewable sources by 2020 with its planned expansion. The plan would result in a turbine being build for every half mile of coastline

There are two electric car manufacturers in Canada - and the government is killing them both. The one in BC has already shut down operations and is moving elsewhere, and the one in Quebec says they may soon go, too. Is this the Avro Arrow all over again? Canada comes up with world-leading technology, and our government caves to American corporate pressure to kill off what could be an entry for Canada into the new green economy of the future?

Non Peak Oil Update

The price goes up when the supply is enforced into a state of scarcity - on purpose - everyone losses; even the criminals.

Purchasing power declines – even if the money supply is constant (neither inflated nor deflated relative to capital) because the costs of production increase in proportion to the increase in price of the same or lowering supply of POWER.

Update:
P.S. Ecologically conscious drivers of hybrid cars, they do not cut down CO2 emissions they just change the location of where it is emitted (tail pipe or electric power plant) when fossil (oil and coal) fuel fired plants are concerned.

And why, then, are Solar Panels a sound investment despite the effort to 'profit' from the demand to the detriment of the consumer and the suppliers?

Answer: The same POWER to PUNISH can be avoided with INDPENDENT POWER production.

And the bonus is, of course, harm-less power as the abundance of sun light (and wind) is converted to electric power.

Re-investing that power back into the creation, storage, and consumption of ever increasing supplies of more and more power LOWERS the 'price'/cost and INCREASES PURCHASING POWER.

DUH

Scoffing at the argument that has been made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others in the Democratic leadership that impeachment might hurt Democratic chances in the November ’08 elections, or that it could deter Democrats from their Congressional agenda, Wexler, a six-term congressman seeking re-election, says, “I believe that there is a constitutional obligation for the Congress to hold this administration accountable, and it should not depend on what people think the impact might be on an election. The only question should be: Did Vice President Cheney abuse his powers?”

The study tries to clarify the nature of this necrophilous passion and the social conditions that tend to foster it. The conclusion will be that help in any broad sense can come only through radical changes in our social and political structure that would reinstate man to his supreme role in society. The call for “law and order” (rather than for life and structure) and for stricter punishment of criminals, as well as the obsession with violence and destruction among some “revolutionaries,” are only further instances of the powerful attraction of necrophilia in the contemporary world. We need to create the conditions that would make the growth of man, this unfinished and uncompleted being – unique in nature – the supreme goal of all social arrangements. Genuine freedom and independence and the end of all forms of exploitive control are the conditions for mobilizing the love of life, which is the only force that can defeat the love for the dead.

A Silicon Valley start-up called Nanosolar shipped its first solar panels -- priced at $1 a watt. That's the price at which solar energy gets cheaper than coal. Curious that this story is not on every front page.

Rather than pie-in-the-sky hydrogen, electric cars offer the potential to dramatically reduce emissions right now - as well as improve air quality, reduce vehicle maintenance costs for millions of motorists and even offer the potential for people to generate their own fuel from solar power. That’s what makes the following bit of news so darned frustrating. Two electric car companies are being blocked from entering the Canadian market. The reason? It doesn’t seem possible to get a difinitive response from the authorities involved….

From $19,000.00

4 Door (utility is 2 door, tropic has no doors), Seats, Seat Belts, Traction Batteries, 110 Volt AC Charger, Side and Turn Signals, Halogen High/low Beam Headlights, Back-up Lights and Alarm, Windshield Wipers and De-mist, Rear view and side mirrors, Battery Level Indicator, 12V accessory plug, Front Disc/ Rear Drum Brakes, 4 wheel Independent Suspension, Heavy Aluminum Underbody Frame, Infusion Molded Fiberglass Body, Molded Plastic Bumpers, Laminated Safety Glass Windshield.

It will cost about 50 cents (USD) to fully recharge the IT battery pack! Based on January 2001 averages, the retail price of residential electricity sold by Electric Utilities in the United States was 7.73 cents per kilowatt-hour. The IT vehicle takes approximately 6 kilowatt-hours to fully recharge the battery pack!

50 Cents to fully charge the battery IF you are not producing Solar Power and IF you have paid off your Solar Panels with Solar POWER (pay off day is past), then, the COST of transportation fuel is ZERO.

Think TAXI with 100 cars on Solar/Wind energy from a small energy farm - eh hoser?

Under ideal driving conditions you can expect up to a 30 mile (50 KM) driving range from a fully charged, optimally conditioned battery pack.
Wind, hills, tire pressure, battery age, payload, drving habits and outdoor temperature can all affect the range that you will ultimately experience.

2 pennies a mile

Compared to one dime per mile for a car with 30 mpg and 3 dollars per gallon price on gasoline.

2 cents versus 10 cents

What happens when gasoline goes to 6 dollars a gallon.

What happens if Saudi Arabia stops selling oil to U.S.A.?

A new Axis of EVIL?

What happens if your home uses the new 1 dollar per watt Solar Panels and you have an electric car while everyone else is blacked out (or browned out) waiting in line at the gas station?

Give your neighbor a ride to the gas station?

Solar-electric projects like this are more expensive per kilowatt than solar-thermal plants. However, they are more efficient and take up less space. And it's possible that photovoltaics, if mass produced, could eventually become cheaper than solar thermal.

1 Dollar per watt?

See how that works? Will people go back to Iraq to take the depleted uranium back; why was that called: "indiian giver"?
