Tesla will use the IPO and the federal loan to develop its lithium-ion battery-powered Model S, a $57,400 electric sedan intended to travel 160 miles (257 kilometers) per charge, by 2012. The company plans to produce at least 20,000 units of the Model S each year.

Federal Loan, Divorce

Under terms of the federal loan, Musk and certain affiliates must retain 65 percent of their stock in Tesla for a year after completing the Model S project. Musk’s divorce proceedings won’t result in the combined stake falling below 65 percent or have a material impact on his ability to serve as CEO, according to filings.

As Tesla focuses on creating a niche for premium-priced electric vehicles, Yokohama, Japan-based Nissan Motor Co. and General Motors Co. are developing battery-powered vehicles to appeal to mainstream buyers.

Nissan’s electric Leaf hatchback, which has a range of 100 miles, goes on sale in the U.S. later this year with a base price of $32,780, or a third that of Tesla’s Roadster.

GM, Nissan

GM plans to introduce the Chevrolet Volt electric car in November. The Detroit-based automaker is preparing for an IPO that may sell 20 percent of the Treasury’s stake in the company and reduce the U.S. to a minority owner, two people familiar with the plan said last week.

Nissan Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn said the automaker has received more than 20,000 orders for the Leaf globally, and is prepared to build as many as 500,000 electric cars annually by 2012. Japan’s third-largest automaker reported revenue of $81.1 billion in its fiscal year ended March 31.

Perhaps buyers of Tesla Motors stock [NSDQ] were optimistic because they had little context to assess the comapny. Tesla's stock soared from its offering price of $17 to close at $23.89 by the end of yesterday, meaning Tesla Motors is now worth $2.2 billion.

The T.25's also has an electric cousin, the T.27, which Murray says will have a range of 80-100 miles and cost around $18,000.

[size=
Abengoa Solar plans to build the largest concentrating solar plants in the world in Arizona. When completed, the 250-megawatt facility known as Solana is expected to provide enough clean energy to power 70,000 homes.]

If each home consumes 100 dollars worth of power each month then how many dollars flow from 70,000 homes to the power producer?

70,000

add two zeros

7,000,000

7 million per month.

12 months per year

7 times 12

84 million dollars per year

84,000,000

Ten years:

840,000,000

Once completed, this plant will be the first large-scale solar plant in the US to actually store the energy it generates for later use — even at night.

How is the power stored? That is very interesting since electric companies (the people who run them) sell electricity at higher prices at "Peak Hours" for reasons that include a cost increase resulting from higher "Peak Hour" production rates.

Producing a lot of power during Peak Hours cost more than producing less power during non-peak hours.

Storing power allows the producer to run production at a steady rate while the store of power drains out during "Peak Hours" and the store of power fills back up during non-peak hours.

No more need to charge very high rates during "Peak Hours" when production can remain steady all day, does the price of power then go up during non-peak hours, and if so how much?

How much does power cost?

$2 billion

and

$1.45 billion

Is that power a loan from the tax payers to the electric power producers?

Ten years:

840,000,000

How about a 30 year mortgage type loan?

84 and 7 zeros times 3 will be the dollars flowing from the electric power consumers to the power producer for 30 years.

588 plus the 7 zeros (The Federal Reserve legal criminals can just add as many zeros as that wish, when they wish to have more money FYI).

5,880,000,000

http://inhabitat.com/2010/03/30/an-ev-for-the-people-all-electric-nissan-leaf-to-cost-25280/

Last year we announced the unveiling of the Nissan Leaf — the first affordable all-electric vehicle from a mainstream automaker — but up until now, Nissan would only concede that the vehicle would cost somewhere in the range of $20,000 to $30,000. Now the automaker has finally revealed the Leaf’s pricing plan: $32,780 before incentives, or $25,280 after a federal tax credit of $7,500. The vehicle will also be available for lease at a price of $349 per month.

In addition to the prototype it is developing with Tesla, Toyota has developed its own electric vehicle, which it plans to begin selling in 2012.

Btw, I have recently submitted the idea to the Ecomagination contest from General Electrics, that has the resources to develop the technology, which I have not. However, my submission is "drowned" in hundreds of other ones and thus is hardly visible. You can help to improve on that with a vote here
( You must register first though, but you don't have to make a profile or anything. Just register and vote - thanks on forehand!)

During a presentation to shareholders a few weeks ago, Tesla revealed plans for a new sports car, an SUV, and a utility van based on its forthcoming 2012 Model S. At the event, CEO Elon Musk gave the audience a brief glimpse of what’s to come with three sketches — one of each model.
