Given the nation's tottering infrastructure, imperial overreach abroad and vandalized constitutional process by a lawless executive branch, what will it take to scare the general public, mainstream press and political classes into immediate action to bring about meaningful change? At this twilight hour of the American republic, there must come a paradigm shift of seismic proportions or else the republic will perish. I'm less than optimistic. Insomuch as, I suspect, that if, during a rare press conference, George W. Bush's face were to suddenly shed its skin, right on camera, live on national television, on all channels, broadcast and cable, to reveal the countenance of a Gila Monster -- the elitist beltway punditry would begin to catalog the merits of his reptilian single-mindedness. Then proceed to an interview with an "expert" from a right-wing funded, zoological think tank, "The American Institute for the Advancement of Predatory Policy," who would assure us that: "...in an era when evil is as proliferate as flies around the stinking dumpster of the world, Americans will be kept safe by a lizard-faced leader who eats flies for breakfast." And the general public would only be concerned because the broadcast happened to preempt the finals of American Idol.

Well, I hate to be huffy, but in order to make this war pay, the US needs to re-establish and maintain 100 percent market share of arms sales in Iraq. If the Iraqis can’t appreciate all the care and attention the American military-industrial complex has been lavishing on them, it’s time to leave the party. That’ll cook their bowl of cherries. The Iraqi government thinks they’re so high and mighty, let them try to run their own country with their black-market AK-47s! They won’t have Dick Cheney to kick around anymore! Or that other guy, you know, the one with the brain impediment.

Next thing you do? Remove all US military personnel – Snap! – just like that. Oh… you can leave the "private contractors," they deserve everything that’s coming to them. But please stamp each solider of fortune with an official disclaimer: Private contractors do not represent the policy of the American People. Well, I hate to break it to you but you ain’t never gonna get the oil by force. Remember the Rumanian and Russian oil fields during WW II? Did Hitler keep any of the oil fields he stole? You’re just going to end up blowing it up too. Strange as it may seem, peace and a free market usually work best in such matters.

Israel will do just fine. They’re building a wall! What’s it made of, dollar bills? Yeah, I know, that’s all the dollar is good for – that and toilet paper.
