Like the weather, liberty, can be a curious topic for discussion, so long as the people, so concerned, are apt to consider either topic worthy of note.
A hurricane, like a war, destroys life and tortures its victims.
One might think it a curious thing that since one can be avoided and the other less so that people do not find more time and energy to invest in preparing against the forces that can be avoided rather than ignore both.
So little time and so much to do
News of an impending storm, or war, is sensational and it certainly invigorates those who stand in the way. Some people are attracted to storms and to war like moths to a flame. Others are frozen in place. Some people spectate; entertainment.
Some gamble for and against the odds; placing bets on their hopeful winner and or the inevitable loser.
Buying long
Selling short
Some diversify and bet on both sides. The storm, it seems, is less profitable than the war since one is predictable and the other less so. What is the premium on the insurance policy? Who hold's stock in munitions?
Casual things inspire casual thoughts and friends are apt to find reason to discuss the latest change in the weather or liberty. How much does it cost? Who will have to pay? When will the next storm, or war, roll through; and where? Place your bets. May the best man win; my bet is on power-independence. The odds are good so long as the weather holds; one could do worse. One can bet on dependence. It is, after all, very powerful. Evacuate when told to do so. Things will be just fine. I trust.
