http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2006/9/emw438337.htmFirst Book Created by Global Collaboration of Over 1,000 People Using Amazon’s Mturk I did not and may not read the article above. Posting that here is a means of bookmarking my continuing thoughts on a phenomenon occurring in the human condition. Much of my thinking on Open Source and related topics is inspired/reinforced by two books written by Howard Bloom: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Howard+Bloom Anyone can Google the Author and find the two books: The Global Brain The Lucifer Principle If the reader here and now will be skeptical concerning my next communication, then, it may be due to a diversion of perspectives too great to bridge in one way communication. Discussion bridges gaps when the idea is to bridge gaps. From early human history until today the human condition has been a struggle to connect and agree or, in other words, the human experience has been finding mutual support. Human beings have found ways to help each other in history. The problem has been disconnection. Example: Are people on the other side of the river, mountain, lake, plain, ocean, continent, or planet friends or enemies? Are OTHER people going to help or harm US? When disconnected the answer is not knowable. When connected the answer is knowable. Human existence has been a process of connecting and knowing. What happens when we are all connected? Answer: The question of knowing if THEY are going to cooperate or if THEY are going to injure US is no longer unknowable and therefore the element of fear is reduced. Example: Are the Asian people going to cooperate with American people? Answer: Call one up and find out first hand, do a Google search, read forums, participate in discussions, trial and error, while the means exists now to know what is knowable. The same question and answer could be used for Iranian people supposedly threatening American people and visa versa. What happens when connection proliferates even further? As it is now, today, the ability to connect, one on one, with almost anyone on the planet is a huge change in the human condition compared to 100 years ago, 200 years ago, 1000 years ago, etc. Today there remains two serious factors that disconnect people and contribute to misunderstanding, fear, and conflict. A primary factor that continues to disconnect people is language. The other primary factor is purpose or motive. The language BARRIER will no longer be a barrier eventually as people learn to translate with hardware, software, and integrated or common language. The other factor remains to be problematic as people will always find reason to falsify language. On the other hand, the disconnection, confusion, misinterpretation, misunderstanding, fear, confusion, and conflict associated with willful distortions, lies, and fraud might soon be minimized with hardware in much the same way that Chinese is translated into German, English, Russian, French, African, Iranian, etc. What happens when the language BARRIER is torn down? A primary factor that continues to disconnect people is language. The other primary factor is purpose or motive. Here is my point: People have struggled to connect as a means of surviving through mutual support. What happens when people no longer need to struggle in order to connect? Another way of looking at this is on a cost basis. What happens when the cost of finding accurate communication is minimized? One affect is irrefutably known, measurable, factual, and extremely beneficial and another affect is now expressed for consideration. The factual affect of cost-less communication is increased time and energy. This is easy to see. Have you ever ordered a product by phone and received the wrong product? Have you ever planned for a group event and arrived at the distant location only to find that the event is scheduled for the next day? Time and energy is used up whenever communication is inaccurate. Another example could be illustrated with the Japanese surrender before the release of nuclear bombs. Like this: President of the U.S.: "Did they surrender?" Translator: "No" President: "Drop it" When, in fact, the Japanese did surrender (not a case of water under the bridge mind you) the subsequent release of all that energy around all those people consumed a lot of cooperative people who could help in the process of surviving and living better. More time and energy could have been saved (along with many human beings) for the lack of accurate communication. My point is not here yet. What happens when the costs associated with inaccurate communication are minimized and the ease with which one person on the planet can translate accurate information with any other person on the planet becomes as easy as pushing a few buttons like this: Have you ever ordered a product from another country on the internet? A rare book for example goes like this: Type the book title on a web page. Click, click, click and click. 3 days later the book arrives at the front door. Compare that with the same process 100 short years ago. The order by which each step must be accomplished and the magnitude of steps required to make the exchange a reality was, and still is for those not using the internet, a much more complicated and costly process which is subject to much more possible error. The saying goes: The Devil is in the details. When there are a whole lot of steps to take, hoops to jump through, complications, loads and loads of fine print to cross T's and dot I's, then, there is also a whole lot of room to interject error on purpose. What happens when Presidents have no excuse for misunderstanding an accurate message from all the other presidents and all the other people on any subject whatsoever or on a subject like torture? What happens all that wiggle room is removed and removed with little or no cost? Answer: Liberty In the past there has been a serious need to insist upon conformity. That pressure to act according to a standard has been same drive as the drive toward connectivity. "You are either with US or against US." The motive was to "connect" to "find out" to be "one for all and all for one", or Friend, or Foe, to "get on the same page" and that "Oneness" has been driven by necessity. Nature dictates the necessity to "find out" who is on "OUR" side in the battle to survive against the force of nature and against the force imposed by "THEM" the "Enemy". "Them" has been, in the past, the disconnected people, the foreigners, the people who speak differently, act differently, look differently, the mysterious, the fearful, the dangerous, and the enviable. What happens when "THEY" become "US"? What happens when the need to strive for connection, for knowledge about one another, and for mutual support is no longer a necessity to find, to arrive at, to strive for, and to reach? What happens when it is simple and easy to communicate accurately with any potential, welcome, voluntary, associate – any where and at any time on the planet? What happens when disconnection by falsehood is no longer possible? These questions are being answered now. We are arriving at the answers and the human species has opened the source. My point is now: The old way is no longer needed or wanted by anyone except those people who profit from the old way. It is not in their best interest to adapt to the new way. The new way is to seek diversity. The old way is to demand, even enforce, conformity. The new way is to find out who is different simply because everyone is already on the same page and everyone is already known and familiar. No longer are we pressed by necessity to seek conformity, oneness, connectivity, and no longer must we conserve that process of reaching out and making sure our neighbors are similar to US and conform to our way. Now is the beginning of the new times. The new times answer the question I am asking now. What happens when the source is open? What happens when no one demands conformity and what happens when diversity and dissimilarity become scarce, wanted, desired, and even demanded? What happens to the usual when the unusual becomes the latest fashion? This may all seem like a wild diversion from the topic of Open Source, HOWEVER, there can be no enforcement of diversity. The whole world is OPEN or LIBERATED in the new age. Contribute at liberty or simply sit back and watch these times change. I don’t think there will be any going back unless some IDIOT starts WWIII.
