bear,

I just sent the following to the printer:

Hi Ryan,

I have been working on finding the last few errors I can find in the book text file. I do not know what to do at this point.

1. Do I have to print out, and sign in wet ink, and then mail a copy of the contract, with a check (discount for checks?) or sign the printed contract and fax it, or is it good enough to photocopy and e-mail the printed, signed, contract, along with a credit card number (no discount?)?

2. I need more information on how to market a book if, by chance, the book becomes something that tends to sell itself, a hit, or whatever words describe something "in demand," so e-Book information, to me, sounds more important than pushing paper copies of a book that may or may not hit "critical mass," and become "in demand."

3. I can send back the check box information request form, if that has to be done that way, but I see my traveling through this process as my crawling like a baby at this point, so I will have to be patient.

4. I  want to go through the .pdf book text file one more time, otherwise I would send it right now. I an anxious to see if there is any type of feedback from you, or other people at your place of work, whereby the file is looked at, and judged, and either passes, or fails, whatever tests you have in place.

5. Having at my house 100 copies would inspire me to sell 100 copies, to get them off whatever shelf I have here, so the number 100 is good in that sense, an inspiration to become a salesman, but the price savings from 25 copies to 100 copies is not much, so I don't know if the increase in copies, at this point, is wise, or unwise. I have no idea as to the marketability of the book.

So, yes, I have the updated printing quote. Do you want a copy of the text file to see if it fits the required form, and to see if it conforms to the size of the already submitted book cover?

Should I send another book cover file with the text file, and an e-mail copy of a signed contract (if I go with the 100 copies)?

My guess is that 25, 50, or 100 copies of the first (and possibly last) printing of this book are investments in learning, if nothing else, so I need to guess how much learning I want to do at this point.

Joe

I was very much encouraged by my banker (my better half) as she informed me that "You don't spend much money, so it is up to you on this book investment..."

Well, she didn't say investment, but this is much better than the reaction I had when I wanted to buy a 3rd guitar to start making an inventory of guitars for sale.

So, it looks like I am deciding, at this point, to go with 100 copies.

I have yet to read your latest reply here:

I am going to be very busy raising bear cubs, so I think it is good for Joe to manage the printer and correspondence and if you want me to know things, I will be happy to know them. But if Joe can carry the burden of decision making and working with the printer, it will be easier for bear.

OK?

Yes, that is fine, like having a publisher on pro bono retainer.

5 gallons of grapes = a jar of juice = It makes me smile

Equitable commerce measured in smiles.

How is that for a standard of value?
