With gas prices above $3 a gallon and possibly headed to $4 by summer, it’s no wonder that automakers are starting to think seriously about producing more alternative-fuel vehicles.
Gas-sipping hybrids have been getting most of the attention. But the next wave of green vehicles will be electric: either pure EVs (for electric vehicles) or so-called plug-in hybrids, which carry a gas engine for longer trips. These cars were a big topic of conversation at the annual New York Auto Show in March.
